The Dempster Highway

Yukon & Northwest Territories, Canada June 2024

We spent two weeks traveling the Dempster Highway. This 734km (456 mi) highway connects the Klondike Highway in Yukon to Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories. The highway crosses the Peel and the Mackenzie rivers using a combination of seasonal ferry services and ice bridges.

When we arrived in Tuktoyaktuk, there was still ice on the Arctic. The second day, we woke up to see all the ice had left. We spent 5 days in Tuktoyaktuk waiting for Solstice and Indigenous Peoples Day. We loved being part of the community festivities and after a full day of activities late into the night, we all saw the midnight sun.
